New Dawn Traders Rum Flagons

Earlier in the year I was asked to produce 55 flagons for the the New Dawn Traders. I was really chuffed to involved in the project and now the short film that was commissioned is available to watch on Vimeo

This from New Dawn Traders:

This year we commissioned Tim Lake Ceramics to make us a small run of flagons to bottle a portion of our New Dawn Rum, straight from the cask. This rum has travelled all the way from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, across the Atlantic to Cornwall, England, aboard the pioneering ship Tres Hombres. She is currently the only engine-less, wind-powered cargo vessel crossing the Atlantic Ocean, with other ships on their way. As part of a new Sailing Cargo Alliance, the New Dawn Traders are championing this renaissance in emission-free transport. These flagons are a continuation of this revival and reimagining of traditional craft. Each of the 56 vessels are hand-thrown on a kick-wheel out of local clays and glazes in Tim's Penryn workshop... a treasure inside and out. - With enormous thanks to Tim and Jonny for making this film.

Shino for Christmas at The Schaller Gallery

I am very pleased to have been asked to contribute to a group show at The Schaller Gallery, St Joseph, Michigan, USA. They are putting on a 'Shino for Christmas' exhibition.
Shino is such a diverse glaze.....metallic, crawling, satin-soft, carbon-trapped, pink, orange or white. I use it over slips, both red clay and white clay and over a very iron rich clay body(almost black/purple when fired to 1300'C) Shino can be very simple in its ingredients, but always has a surprise for you when the kiln is opened.

I have had pots with the Schaller Gallery for a few years and love their enthusiasm for pots and pottery and I'm looking forward to the show they put together to celebrate this fantastic glaze.

Here are a selection of pots that I am sending over.

Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Penzance, Cornwall

We were lucky enough to visit Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens today. It's a really fantastic place near Penzance in Cornwall. We had heard a lot of positive reports about the place and it exceeded all expectations. A really beautiful garden with some fantastic sculptures by David Nash, Richard Long, Tim Shaw. James Turrell and others. I was very pleased to be asked to have work in the Gallery/shop. The space is great and has some lovely work for sale including Peter Swanson's fantastic pots.
