Midgley Green

The lovely folks from Midgley Green @midgleygreen came to our place on Monday to collect the latest selection of pots for their fantastic shop in Clevedon. While we were chatting about the new kiln Seamus took some great images which I wanted to share with you. I am in full making mode at the moment in preparation for the next firing in a couple of weeks time. All being well, the pots from that firing will ready in time for the Contemporary Ceramics Fair at the @hepworthwakefield over the first May bank holiday weekend.

A firing that I thought was going to be a disaster (long story and won't bore you with it, let's just say that there were flames where there shouldn't have been, which ended up with a blown up and burnt pressure gauge) but luckily most of the pots came out as well as I could have......

It's been a while since I posted!!

Lots has happened since my last post in early November. The major event was the birth of our daughter at the end of November. An amazing little creature! Giving us lots of joy.

After a month or so of getting used to our new companion I got back to work. The first project was to get a new kiln shed built. It is now finished enough to be used.....a few more bits of cladding to be added, but that will come as and when funds allow. I have also built a small experimental kiln(not pictured) for Salt and soda firing. I have fired it once and was very pleased with some of the pots. It wasn't a total success, one shelf was totally under-fired, so much so that Cone8 didn't even move. I think I know how to resolve this and will fire again soon. I will probably fire it a couple more times before I take it down to make way for my new main kiln. This will be 30 cu ft down draft kiln to fired with Propane and finished with a small amount of wood and soda to add some flavour to areas of raw (un-glazed) clay on the pots.

I have sent to some new work to The Schaller Gallery in St Joseph, US for a show during March. Some of the pots from the kiln have headed over there, some of which are featured below.

There is lots happening at the moment with projects and making in full swing.....more regular blog posts to come in the coming weeks

Beakers and blooms...... The beakers are my everyday drinking vessels that I make alot of. They are versatile and I keep the at a price that is affordable for a handmade object. Whether its a long black coffee, a cold beer or a quick swig of water, they're a great vessel for whatever takes your fancy.

Back from a good time in London at Ceramics in City at the Geffrye Museum.

Last weekend was a good one at the Geffrye Museum for this years Ceramics in the City.
I really enjoyed the event last year and this year didn't disappoint.

Wardlow Pots and Food Festival is this weekend. Really looking forward to this show, I've heard loads of great things about it and I can't wait to go and check it out....lots of good food to eat and lovely pots to look at.

Here are a few more pots that are heading with me to the shows this Summer. On the road to Penrith tomorrow to set Potfest in the Pens. The show runs from Friday at 10am through to Sunday at 5pm

New pots from this weeks firing.

Here are a few quick snaps from this weeks firing. Not the greatest images, but luckily there are some good pots in there. Most of these will be with me tomorrow at the Hay-on-Wye Thursday market. I will be in the Butter market from 8.30 until 1pm

For the Market at Hay I mostly take my pots for food and drink, serving it, eating from it, or drinking from it. Prices start from £15.00 for a beaker. There will also be a sale box of slight seconds and older pots.
